The Family Business Center at the Wake Forest University Schools of Business will host Jim Ethier (right), the chairman of Bush Brothers & Co., at the Mint Museum of Art in Charlotte on March 23. Ethier (not to be confused with Jay Bush from the company’s commercials) will share the joys and challenges of making the “world's best beans" and keeping the secret recipe in the family! Founded in 1908 by Andrew Jackson Bush, the company is based in Knoxville, Tenn. and has production locations in Chestnut Hill, Tenn., and Augusta, Wis. Jim is a third generation member of the Bush family.
The next day (March 24), Ethier will bring his message to attendees in Winston-Salem, appearing at the Graylyn Conference Center.
Dr. Leon Danco's 12 Commandments for the Family Business influenced the Bush family’s efforts as they have continued operating their company for a century. He will discuss how the family has been guided by those commandments and some of the specific actions that have taken place in response to Danco's suggestions. No word on whether pitchdog Duke will make a cameo or if free samples of beans will be passed out to attendees!
A private lunch with the speaker for FBC members, sponsors and invited guests begins at noon, and the program starts at 1 pm. Registration required … contact Kristen Tetrault at (336) 758-4950 for more information.
