Wake Forest University announced the winners for its 11th Annual Elevator Competition at an evening gala Saturday, March 27, providing vital exposure and cash prizes to the teams that did the best job of impressing venture capitalist judges.
Traditional Business Plan Competition
The GlucaGo team from Purdue University (left) won in the event’s Traditional Business Plan category, taking home a $10,000 cash prize and securing a fast-track review for an investment from the Piedmont Angel Network (PAN). Second place goes to PCCA Technologies from Carnegie Mellon University, and third place goes to EntoGenetics from Duke University.
Social Entrepreneurship Competition
AutismSphere from the University of North Carolina (right) took home the top prize of $5,000 for the Social Entrepreneurship Competition. The award recognized the top business plan designed to meet community needs. Second place was awarded to Marere Pure Water from Brigham Young University, and third place goes to Safe Snip (NOvate Medical Technologies) from Tulane University.
Fan Favorite
uInnovate from Wake Forest University won the competition’s fan voting, securing 2431 votes through the Elevator Competition’s official Web site. Bazari from Brigham Young University came in second place with 1796 votes, followed by SafeSnip from Tulane University. The Fan Favorites prizes include Flip Mino HD digital video cameras for the first place team, iPod Nanos with video capability for the second place team, and Nikon Coolpix digital cameras for the third place team.
